i can't take my eyes off of you

NOOOOOOOO. I knew this would happen! The fear set in after my initial shock when I heard "Delicate" on Alias last season. Then later that SAME week, "Cannonball" was on The O.C. Now, tonight, while watching The O.C., I heard another Damien Rice song used in the movie ad for Closer. Boo-urns! At least it wasn't a car commercial. I know I'm exhibiting a classic case of a hardcore fan resenting the increasing popularity of an artist who deserves better fans than the ones he's sure to attract once his music is on a show like The O.C. Popularity is good, especially for someone like Damien, whose ability to write such beautiful music should be shared by all who can appreciate it (if you haven't already heard me say it, I cried when I listened to O for the first time). But as a fan, there's always that fear of what popularity will do to him and his music. Will the next album be too "pop," in an attempt to reach an even wider audience, or will it have no creative originality, spurred by the pressures of the record company to reproduce O 2. Or will I no longer like his music because too many people know about him so he's no longer the obscure talent that first attracted me to his music in the first place (what can I say, I'm a sucker for the underdog). OK, I'll calm down. I have faith in you, Damien; don't let me down on the next album!
